Professor Huang Peng and Professor Lin Jing of Shenzhen University reviewed the research on enzymes with polymer shell and their biomedical applications.
The main points of this paper are as follows
(1) Enzyme therapy has attracted more and more attention because of its high biological specificity, excellent catalytic efficiency and good therapeutic effect. However, how to protect the enzyme and deliver it to the target cells while maintaining its catalytic efficiency is still a big research challenge. Studies have shown that using polymer shell to encapsulate enzymes (rather than trapping them in liposomes and other large nanoparticles) can protect the folded state of enzymes and make post functionalization easier.
(2) In this paper, the methods of coating enzyme with protective polymer shell were reviewed, and the methods of preparing polymer enzyme were introduced, including physical adsorption and chemical coupling; The reasonable design of polymer enzyme was summarized with application examples; Then, the emphasis and development of this field are discussed and prospected.
